November’s Great Human Migration

November 6, 2022

November’s great human migration has begun. Snowbirds and boat owners move their vessels south for the winter, and the first marina you come to on the east coast of Florida, is the Fernandina Beach Harbor Marina. Our small, waterfront Victorian village greets transients once they pass Fort Clinch, the Port of Fernandina Beach, the state’s smallest State Park and many other landmarks the average sailor may not even be aware of. The scenic waterways are full of wildlife and history, and for the month of November, the traveling boater, too.

Many require the vessel remain located north of 30.5 degrees longitude or south of 10 degrees north latitude. Now, that November is here, those restrictions are lifted and the yachts are migrating south. Some will stop for a day or two in our beautiful community, others will only gaze upon our shores. Either way, sitting on the waterfront benches at the Fernandina Marina has created an interesting past-time for Fernandina Beach residents, yacht watching.

Come downtown on one of our spectacular November days. It’s easy to imagine one’s self traveling on a gorgeous, finely appointed yacht while sitting at the docks. It’s even more enjoyable to know that you are not footing those hefty payments for ownership, maintenance, a potential crew, insurance, rents for dock space, and fuel!
