Finishing 2023 on the water with amelia river cruises

Finishing 2023 on the Water

December 1, 2023

We are finishing 2023 on the water with amazing boat tours and river cruises along the Amelia and Cumberland Island shorelines. See wilderness beaches and maritime forests, and wild horses and dolphins. Hear the stories of yesterday, including Pirates, railroad tycoons, and families of legacies like the Carnegies and the Rockefellers.

The cooler temperatures means all tours we have scheduled to finishing 2023 on the water may not depart our base at the Fernandina Harbor’s Oasis Marina. If departure temperatures are 50 degrees or less, we may not leave the docks. We also require a minimum of 12 passengers onboard to keep up with high fuel costs and inflation.

We point out the fascinating landmarks and local business while we look for wildlife on shore and in the river. You will pass shrimp boats, iconic homes, legendary islands and cross the Georgia State Line. We will continue our journey north and look for playful dolphins, then turn our attention towards the wild horses of Cumberland Island when her southern beach comes into view.

This narrated tour reveals the history of Cumberland Island as our Captains share the stories of wealth and tragedy surrounding the Carnegie, Rockefeller, and Kennedy families. Stories from time before the civil war are brought to life on this fascinating trip back in time. The return trip includes history of the King’s Bay Naval Base and information about their Ohio class of nuclear submarines.

All of our boats are equipped with restrooms and are fully accessible. We encourage you to bring your own food and beverage, and well-behaved, leashed pets are welcome, too.

The 2:00 tour is similar in nature, but this time of the year it is often a warmer excursion out on the waters. It is one hour shorter than the 10:00 am tour, so there will be a little less history and a shorter opportunity to see the wildlife. However, on a good tide, we will make our way up Beach Creek bringing you closer to the Dungeness ruins and the birds of Cumberland Island.

We will be making some schedule changes in January 2024, but until then, here is our December tour calendar. We hope you will join us in finishing 2023 on the water:
